Mizuno contributes to the realization of the
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Mizuno's Initiatives related to the SDGs

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (the 2030 Agenda) is a set of international development goals from 2016 to 2030, which was adopted by the UN Sustainable Development Summit held in September 2015. The 2030 Agenda listed “Sustainable Development Goals” consisting of 17 goals and 169 targets in order to realize a sustainable world. The SDGs pledge “Leave no one behind.”

Based on Mizuno's corporate philosophy of "contributing to society through the advancement of sporting goods and the promotion of sports," we have aimed to bring joy and happiness to people through quality sporting goods and the promotion of sports for over 110 years. The words of our founder, Rihachi Mizuno, “Rieki no ri yori, dori no ri”, which means “Justice above profit”—reflect a belief in prioritizing the growth of sports. This nurtures a thriving sports market, which in turn generates business revenue. This philosophy has been consistent since our founding and continues to be passed on to every member of the Mizuno Group. In our efforts to achieve a sustainable society and preserve the environment, Mizuno will continue to engage in business activities that are both responsible and considerate of sustainability. We are committed to leveraging the transformative power of sports to contribute to a globally sustainable society.

About the Sports SDGs

The UN also expects sport to play a role as an important and powerful tool to address the challenges of each of the 17 goals.
As we enter a new era of rapid change, we feel that the value of sport is being reevaluated and expectations for sport are rising.
Mizuno supports the SDGs and aims to contribute to the achievement of the SDGs through sport.

Priority issues (materiality) of Mizuno

To understand the impact of our activities on society, the economy, and the environment more effectively, we identified key issues in CSR and sustainability in 2015, focusing on their importance to both stakeholders and Mizuno. In April 2020, our group embraced the principles of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), revising our Long-Term Management Policy and establishing “Action Principles for SDGs”, along with a "Value Creation Story." As we navigate a rapidly changing new era, we re-evaluated the social challenges closely tied to our group in fiscal 2021, basing this reassessment on our "Value Creation Story," and updated the key issues initially identified in 2015.
