Reducing environmental impact by changing the package of official game balls (Baseball)

From the 2022 season, we will start using GL BARRIER, which protects products from humidity (moisture) and light, in its packaging materials for official game balls for the Nippon Professional Baseball Organization (NPB).

The packaging of official game balls to date has used aluminum foil and clear films as materials in order to minimize the impact of temperature and humidity when storing the balls, and prevent color change due to ultraviolet rays. By using GL BARRIER as the packaging material, it becomes possible to maintain an equal or better level of protection for balls without using aluminum foil. Because of this, we expect to be able to reduce its CO2 emissions by around 1.7 tons a year*1, compared to existing packaging materials.

*1 From raw material mining through to disposal after use (according to research done by Toppan Inc. and Mizuno).

We plan to gradually change the packaging materials used for the balls for amateur baseball to GL BARRIER as well.

We are aiming to realize carbon neutrality, with net-zero CO2 emissions, in all the group business activities by 2050. In order to achieve this goal, we will strengthen our initiatives that take note of the environment, including reducing waste production.
