Running shoes that offset CO2 emissions by tree planting – Part 2

Mizuno aims to become "Carbon neutral by 2050" in order to build a sustainable society.

As part of these efforts, Mizuno has developed running shoes, "WAVE NEO WIND" and "WAVE NEO ULTRA" of the "WAVE NEO COLLECTION" with the aim of creating shoes that reduce environmental impact while maintaining the functions of the performance running shoes Mizuno has developed to date, which can be used for full marathons.
These shoes reduce CO2 emissions by using environmentally friendly materials such as recycled polyester and plant-derived materials as raw materials, and by using dope-dyed upper knit materials for new black color model to conserve water resources and reduce environmental impact.

In addition, with the aim of absorbing CO2 emitted during the product life cycle of these shoes, Mizuno planted approximately 50,000 trees (Ponderosa pine,Doug-fir) in Boise,Idaho, in the United States on April & May 2023, in cooperation with the National Forest Foundation. These trees will continue to absorb CO2 from the atmosphere for nearly 100 years. As a result, the amount of CO2 emissions during the product life cycle of the WAVE NEO COLLECTION which will be sold worldwide (about 20,000 pairs), will be offset by the amount of CO2 absorbed through afforestation. This latest planting also brings Mizuno's total number of trees planted in relation to the Wave Neo Collection to approximately 160,000.

Mizuno continues to take on the challenge of realizing a sustainable society and aims to protect the rich global environment where people can enjoy sports, and pass it on to the next generation.
