Mizuno’s Sustainability Activities at the Osaka Marathon 2025
In recent years, with rising temperatures due to global warming, it has become increasingly difficult to enjoy outdoor sports such as running . At Mizuno, we implement various environmental conservation activities to preserve the environment so that sports can continue to be enjoyed.
At the Osaka Marathon 2025, held in February 2025, we implemented three major initiatives:
1. Collection of Recyclable Apparel
Continuing from last year, we set up a collection box for chemical recycling at the Mizuno booth in the EXPO area. We called on participants through our website, email newsletters, and social media to bring their unwanted apparel for recycling.
2. Sales of Recycled Material Ponchos
Since many runners wear ponchos for warmth, we created environmentally-friendly ponchos from recycled materials, which can be recycled again after use. These were sold at the Mizuno booth in the EXPO area.
3. Poncho Collection on Race Day
As a first-time initiative, we set up poncho collection boxes at four locations, including the start area, and called on runners to participate in the collection effort. Among the collected items, those suitable for recycling will be transformed into logistics packaging materials and other products.
When sustainability efforts like these are consistently implemented and communicated, they will become more deeply rooted among participants, leading to greater effects, like improved collection rates.
Mizuno will continue our environmental conservation activities and strive to preserve the global environment so that sports can continue to be enjoyed by everyone.
