Reducing GHG Emissions in Golf Club Manufacturing with a New Production Method

Mizuno has achieved a reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the manufacturing process by introducing a newly developed production method for its forged iron golf clubs, one of the core product lines of Mizuno Golf.

Mizuno’s proprietary Grain Flow Forged HD process consists of six main steps. During the transition from Step 01 to Step 02, the forming stage draws down one end of a round steel bar. Mizuno has incorporated the newly developed Hosel HD Process in this step, for which a patent application is currently pending*².

Environmental Impact Reduction Achieved by the Hosel HD Process

By adopting the Hosel HD Process, the following environmental benefits have been confirmed compared with conventional manufacturing methods:
・Approximately 8% reduction in material input per club
・Reduced generation of manufacturing waste through a decrease in trimming volume
As a result of these improvements, the product is expected to achieve an annual reduction of approximately 53 metric tons of GHG emissions.
