An entry-level plate spring prosthesis allowing even those with prosthetics to enjoy sports

Until now, plate spring sports prostheses were designed for top athletes wanting to break records and compete for positions in competitions.

General prostheses designed for daily use like walking cannot be used for running. Also, plate spring prostheses for sports were expensive and difficult to maintain and adjust. As a result, lower limb amputees generally had no choice but to give up sports that involved running.

Mizuno and Imasen Engineering Corporation, a manufacturer of general welfare equipment, jointly developed the KATANAΣ (Sigma) plate spring sports prosthesis. The KATANAΣ was designed for top athletes and saw use at international sporting events in 2021.

Using the know-how from developing the KATANAΣ, we then developed the KATANAα (Alpha), an entry-level model for those running with prosthetic legs for the first time. The KATANAα can be easily switched with prosthetic legs designed for daily use and is more reasonably priced than conventional plate spring prostheses for sports. These changes make it easier for lower limb amputees to enjoy sports that involve running.

We are committed to creating a prosperous future where everyone can enjoy sports freely, anytime, anywhere, by enabling people to do things they previously couldn't. We also promote partnerships to achieve these goals and resolve issues throughout society.
